Kyla Sylvers is a trained actress, writer, director, and producer who graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in Dramatic Arts. As a performer, she has worked on stage and screen in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and London. Her most recent work includes her starring in the short film SALUD through the women’s weekend film challenge in 2022 and performing her solo piece with Generation Women later in the same year. Before that, she starred in the hit dark-comedy crime web series, SEX, VLOGS, AND KIDNAPPINGS in early 2022 while her solo piece CHAOS AT 26! OR MAYBE IT’S NOT SO BAD… had a run at THE TANK in NYC in October 2021. After about a year abroad and taking time to strike with her fellow actors, Kyla is currently both Chicago and NYC based but can be a local hire in L.A., D.C., and Atlanta. She is currently looking for new representation as a writer and actress. She is also a proud member of the ACTOR’S EQUITY ASSOCIATION.
In addition to that, she is the co-founder and CEO of MELANIN & MAGIC PRODUCTIONS. Most recently, the company completed the dark comedy-crime web series, SEX, VLOGS, AND KIDNAPPINGS which has amassed over 1,000,000 views across three episodes on YouTube. Kyla wrote, directed, and starred in the series. The company also produced the award-winning supernatural drama film THE BLACK BANSHEE, which Kyla also wrote and co-starred in. That film screened at over 50 independent cinemas, won an audience choice award, and was featured in Essence magazine. Previous productions also include the drama short THE WAY OUT, which Kyla also starred in and currently sits at 11,000+ views on YouTube, and the dramedy web series, FINDING OUR WAY, which Kyla wrote and co-starred in.
As a writer, Kyla Sylvers has been a finalist and/or semi-finalist in the SUNDANCE EPISODIC LAB, MACRO EPISODIC LAB, BLACK BOY WRITES/BLACK GIRL WRITES LAB, ISA FAST TRACK COMPETITION, EMERGING SCREENWRITERS COMPETITION, THE FUTURE OF FILM IS FEMALE SHORT FILM SCRIPT COMPETITION amongst others. Her work has been featured in numerous film festivals, screened at over 50 independent cinemas, and even won awards.
